OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
(Tauxemont)

Tauxemont is a most pleasant neighborhood. It is a woody development with lots of beautiful places to take leisurely walks. Our house is only ten minutes walk from the Potomac River.

During the year, we hosted a Botswana evening for a few of our neighbors, made a presentation on Botswana and served traditional food.

Both of us also made presentations on our home countries (Botswana and Sweden) to a local church group .

Celebrations are part of Tauxemont. Birthdays are celebrated in style and weddings attract a good part of the 100+ households that form the community.

Every summer, a special Saturday is set aside as a "garden walk" day. A few gardens are selected for neighbors to visit. This year, part of the neighborhood's admiration was the natrual meadow section of our garden.

In spring, the community organised a "Dutch Supper".

And there is the Thursday entertainment at a local restaurant, Via Veneto, which is five minutes walk from our house. At Via Veneto, Carlos charms the neighborhood with his guitar and singing and we accasionally join in the fun.

Once every 17 years, part of the eastern USA is invaded by cikadas. On June 3, 2004, at 13:28, a cikada visited us, to be followed by millions thereafter.
